The Battle of Fort Sanders was a key fight in the Knoxville Campaign during the Civil War. It took place in Knoxville, Tennessee, on November 29, 1863. Confederate forces led by Gen. James Longstreet attacked the Union defenses under Gen. Ambrose Burnside but failed to break through. The Union victory caused heavy Confederate losses and marked the final phase of the Siege of Knoxville.
